Photos Mizuno Wave Daichi 8
1 / 3Their previous versions have been and will continue to be some of the most revolutionary models of the Japanese company. Therefore, the Mizuno Wave Daichi 8 were not going to be less and come to market with a renewal of quality with which aspire to maintain the great legacy of one of the most famous lines of trail running brand.
And if you were already a fan of trail running shoes like the Daichi 7 or Daichi 6, you're going to love these Mizuno Wave Daichi 8. Yes, they come with substantial changes inside, but they have the same philosophy and design that has led them to reach this eighth and new edition.
Here we tell you all the details of these renewed Mizuno Wave Daichi 8, a model that we have no doubt that will capture all eyes in this recently entered 2024 and that will stand as one of the most prominent silhouettes of the company as far as mountain footwear is concerned. Let's go there!
Main features and novelties of the Mizuno Wave Daichi 8
At first glance, it is difficult to differentiate the qualities that make these Wave Daichi 8 one of the most daring remodels as far as Mizuno trail running shoes are concerned, because its aesthetic essence remains in line with the general philosophy of the range. However, it is inside where we find the most significant changes.
Unlike its last version, the Mizuno Wave Daichi 7, this new model of the Japanese company lands on the market with a drop of 6 millimeters, two less than we were used to, offering a footprint much closer to the ground. This feature will allow enjoying a much more natural running for those who maintain a refined running technique.
Besides, the outsole of this new trail running model for training and competitions stands out for arriving with the new Vibram compound with 4-millimeter lugs. A technology that every trail running lover knows for its traction and adherence to the terrain and that will favor stability and safety in the race superior to that provided in previous editions by the Michelin rubber compound.
In addition, the Mizuno Wave Daichi 8 also stands out for its weight, of only 300 grams, thus maintaining the lightness it used to offer. As if that were not enough, the midsole is still made from Enerzy Foam and Mizuno Wave foams, a combination that together with its EVA rocker plate improves the running sensation, providing a more comfortable, safe and efficient stride.
Ideal runner profile of the Mizuno Wave Daichi 8
As in previous versions, if there is something that stands out in this range is that it is a model for all audiences. We are talking about a model with great technical performance that is nevertheless accessible to a wide range of runners, both for its iconic relationship and for its characteristics, which make it an alternative even for runners weighing up to 85 kilos.
Moreover, on this occasion, we are talking about a totally vegan shoe, produced without any animal-based materials and without harming any of them in the manufacturing process. A manufacturing ethic that is consolidated with an outer lining of up to 90% recycled materials, as well as a lacing and an upper that also contain 90% and 50% recycled materials respectively, to finish with a lower part of the midsole made from sugar cane.
Recommended distances for the Mizuno Wave Daichi 8
As far as target distances are concerned, these Mizuno Wave Daichi 8 are ideal shoes for middle distance in the mountains. When we talk about middle distance in trail running, we refer to kilometers below 50 kilometers, usually around the marathon distance.
Therefore, we speak of trail running shoes for men and women of versatile distances, as long as we do not stretch too much those target kilometers. Although they will maintain their cushioning, stability and resistance for a long time, this is not an ultra-distance model, as could be the Mujin range, more oriented to long-distance races.
In short, a remodeling of height that comes with a retail price somewhat higher than usual, reaching 150 €, but that is justified by the innovations that have been introduced in this eighth version that has nothing to envy to leading models from other firms such as the Salomon Sense Ride 5 or the New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro V8.

TesterMizuno Wave Daichi 8: Improved comfort and protection for your adventures in any mountain terrain
On this occasion I had the opportunity to test the eighth version of the Mizuno Wave Daichi, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. This new version brings with it several notable changes, especially in the outsole, which now features Vibram technology instead of Michelin. This update has significantly improved the performance and versatility of the shoe.
Runner profile for the Mizuno Wave Daichi 8
I am a middleweight runner and I usually run at medium to high paces, so finding a shoe that offers the perfect combination of cushioning and responsiveness is essential for me. The Wave Daichi 8 is designed specifically for runners like me who enjoy running on a variety of terrains and are looking for a shoe that performs well over medium distances, between 10 and 30 km.
From the moment I put the shoes on, I noticed their comfort thanks to the Mizuno Enerzy Foam midsole, which provides superior cushioning and outstanding energy return.
What I liked best about the Mizuno Wave Daichi 8
What impressed me the most about the Wave Daichi 8 was its Vibram outsole. This change, compared to the Michelin outsole in previous versions, I feel offers impressive traction on everything from technical trails full of roots and rocks to softer dirt and gravel trails.
On fast descents, I felt confident and stable, something that is not always easy to achieve. In addition, the improvement in breathability has been remarkable. The upper has been reinforced with a heat-sealed toe cap, which provides good impact protection without compromising ventilation. This has been especially useful on long runs, where keeping feet dry and cool is essential to avoid blisters and discomfort.
Possible improvements to the Mizuno Wave Daichi 8
While the Wave Daichi 8 has many virtues, there is one area where I think Mizuno could improve: the fit system. Currently, it uses a traditional lacing system, which while functional, is not the most efficient when you need to make quick adjustments mid-run. Personally, I would like to see something similar to the sliding lacing system, which allows for quick and secure adjustment with a single pull.
Despite this, once adjusted, the shoes offer excellent stability, at no point did I ever feel my feet moving around inside the shoe, even on uneven terrain.
Final conclusions on the Mizuno Wave Daichi 8
In summary, the Mizuno Wave Daichi 8 has exceeded my expectations. It is an all-terrain, lightweight, stable and secure shoe. Plus its Vibram outsole and Mizuno Enerzy Foam are a winning combination that offers exceptional traction and cushioning. Although the fitting system could be improved, this does not detract from the shoe's many virtues.
If you're looking for a versatile and reliable shoe for your trail adventures, I highly recommend giving Mizunos Wave Daichi 8 a try. It has been an excellent companion on my runs and I'm sure it will be for you as well. With its combination of superior traction, comfort and rugged design, it's ready to accompany you on all your outdoors challenges, providing the confidence and performance you need to overcome any obstacle along the way.
